A Discussion About Sustainability

Updated: Jan 3

Sustainability is a commonly used term in current conversations about energy costs for facilities.

A simple definition of sustainability is the ability of any equipment, especially HVACR equipment, to perform and consume energy at the same rate as when it was brand new.

A simple example could be if your air-conditioning system uses 2,000 kWh per month when it is new, you want it to be able to perform at the same level at years 4, 5, and beyond, this is sustainability.

The question becomes how we achieve sustainability of these types of systems. The first solution is maintenance. It has become far too common that little to no maintenance is done on these systems until a failure occurs. During that time between failures, much of the efficiency of the system is lost due to wear and tear on components of the systems that could have been avoided with regular maintenance.

It is easy to think of maintenance as an unnecessary expense, but it is the best way to keep equipment working efficiently, prevent expense repairs and improve the life of the equipment to avoid replacement costs.

The second method to maintain the efficiency of your HVACR equipment is to have a quality protective coating, like CoilSafe or CoilSafe Plus, installed on the coils. This will prevent corrosion, reduce the amount of dirt on the coils and reduce any build-up of fungal, bacterial, or viral growth, allowing the system to operate efficiently for a much longer period of time.

In summary, all mechanical or HVACR equipment operates more efficiently and sustainably when it is properly maintained and protected. Contact our team to learn more.
